When taking a look at where mainstream gaming got its start, one commonality makes itself apparent: the platformer genre. There’s been countless titles to use this formula over the years, and while many are still going strong in the modern day, many likewise have fallen to the wayside. There is a third and even rarer category though, that being those that made a comeback. The latest of these to say they’ve done so is the classic GEX series, with the full trilogy making its way to several platforms later this year!

It’s been known that the GEX Trilogy was on its way for nearly two years now. In the 2023 Limited Run Games showcase, the collection was revealed to the public in a short James Bond-esque trailer with little other information. Cut to yesterday though, when a brand-new trailer was posted, giving us gameplay footage of the collection for the first time. The full GEX trilogy is included, being the original GEX as well as GEX: Enter the Gecko and GEX 3: Deep Cover Gecko. It looks as if these will be more than just one-to-one ports too! The footage reveals that the 3D titles will come with native widescreen support, and the description mentions included extras as well as other improvements too.

While an exact release date was not given, the trailer confirmed that the GEX Trilogy will arrive in Summer 2025. It will be available on Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series XS, and Steam upon release. Those who grew up with the originals should be sure to revisit them, and even those with no prior experience with the series should consider giving them a shot this summer!
