Digital Eclipse has done a great job of listening to Power Rangers fans when it comes to Rita’s Rewind. After adding in an online co-op feature between two systems in December and adding it to Nintendo Switch last month, DE is announcing an even bigger update today.
Dubbed the Power Blast Update and aiming to be on all systems by next week, a host of gameplay features are being added to the game. The first of which is the ability to customize a set of Strength, Defense, and Speed stats for each Ranger rather than having all six evenly matched. Playing through the game will now reward stat points that can be applied in one of these three categories as seen fit.
In addition to stats, a set of modifiers called Morphers are being introduced. One of the modifiers can even restore the Rangers’ evenly matched universal stats that were present before this update. Gravity, damage, and more are said to be able to be tweaked with the goal of making runs easier or more difficult. This much is similar to Shredder’s Revenge which also had a modifier slider introduced in a post-launch update.
Lastly, two new moves will improve gameplay flow. A small bit of health can be spent to execute a Power Blast that knocks back all surrounding enemies by pressing both attack and special simultaneously. Additionally, if you’ve been knocked down by an enemy attack, a well-timed button press can now negate the recovery animation altogether.
Even cooler still is that this update is free and introduces remappable controls. While the Power Blast Update is arriving with these much-requested features very soon, a future update will add the option of six player online co-op across six different systems. According to Digital Eclipse, the game is best played in six player online co-op across a maximum of two different systems, but the option for six is being added by request.
Will the Power Blast Update be included with the physical game?
If you’re waiting to give Rita’s Rewind a spin through a physical copy of the game, you’ll be happy to know that both the Switch and PS5 versions will include all of the aforementioned updates on disc/cartridge when they drop on May 30th.
Sounds like there’s still plenty of Morphin’ Time to be had!
