Strap in, amiibo fans—this is the update you’ve been waiting for! Earlier today, newly discovered patents strongly suggest that the Switch 2’s Joy-Con will feature some form of mouse support. But that’s not all! Hidden within another patent uploaded today, there are indications that at least one of the Joy-Con will include built-in NFC, making amiibo support all but confirmed!
Details about the NFC reader are outlined in the documentation attached to the patent. While the text is in Japanese, a quick Google Translate scan provided the following:
Since the first controller 1 has the same configuration as the second controller 2, description is omitted. Note that the first controller 1 may include an NFC communication unit 2122. The second controller 2 may not include an NFC communication unit 2122. The NFC communication unit 2122 performs short-range wireless communication based on the NFC (Near Field Communication) standard. The first controller 1 may include a processing unit 2121 that executes a management process for the NFC communication unit 2122 in response to a command from the main unit device 3.
