Somehow, someway, Super Mario Run has continued to receive “new” content since its release in 2016. To commemorate the launch of Mario & Luigi: Brothership today, Nintendo has launched a crossover event in Super Mario Run. Running until December 19, 2024, the event adds the limited “Mario and Luigi’s New Adventure! Special Mission” objective that will reward players with statues of Mario, Luigi, and some of their new friends to place in your mushroom plaza.

The special missions in the event seem fairly easy to finish. They include collecting 1,500 coins and finishing World 1-1 without defeating any Goombas. The text actually reads “Clear the game without defeating any Goombas,” but is listed for World 1-1. Maybe that’s an error, but it’s still not all that difficult.

I wouldn’t say this event is reason enough to boot up Super Mario Run again, but if you have some time to kill while waiting for a doctor’s appointment or because you want to contemplate your existence in this messy world, I guess you might as well earn some Super Mario statues.
