As more details from Nintendo’s Q2 FY2025 financial report come out, we’ve learned some new things regarding the future of Nintendo’s transmedia prospects. One such detail is that the live-action Legend of Zelda movie, which was announced last year, will be targeting a release date of 202X.

The date came as part of an extended presentation on Nintendo’s push for non-gaming content. In a slide titled “Visual Content,” we can see The Super Mario Bros. Movie with 2023 under it, the already announced sequel to that film with 2026, and then a logo for The Legend of Zelda with the hilarious 202X. “In the field of visual content, we are making direct investments and are deeply involved in the planning and development of multiple productions,” said Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa.

Yup, you’ve heard it here first, people. Zelda will hit theaters within the next five years. This humorous placeholder actually recalls a past Nintendo financial report from 2021 where the company stated the Switch successor would be released in “20XX.” Talk about making firm commitments.
