At the beginning of the year, we reported that Kirby and Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai would be ending his YouTube series “Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games” some time in 2024. It appears the time has come, as Sakurai has announced that the October 15th episode will be the last scheduled episode to air.
As mentioned previously, I'll be wrapping up production of new episodes for my YouTube channel soon. Right now, it's looking like the last scheduled episode will release on Tuesday, October 15th.
However, I'm also working on a special finale episode to come afterward, so please… pic.twitter.com/6cyx3XO0nw

Alongside the announcement of this final scheduled episode Sakurai announced that he’s working on a special finale episode to officially end the series and that more details are forthcoming.
Looking back on the Sakurai’s Creating Games series
“Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games” was launched in August of 2022 and has been regularly releasing videos since. Most videos focused on the design philosophy and other in-depth aspects of Sakurai’s development process along with his views about what has and hasn’t worked about various games he’s worked on. It’s also been common for him to drop interesting and exciting behind-the-scenes info about his games, like Kirby Super Star’s cut horror content, how he had to take over as director for Kirby Air Ride and rebuild the game from scratch in just three and a half months, or touching on the fact that for the most part they were prohibited from making Super Smash Bros. merchandise other than amiibo.
It’s sad to see this bastion of video game knowledge and insight come to an end, but knowing Sakurai he’s probably hard at work on whatever comes next.
