Editor’s Note – Nostalgia is a powerful thing, isn’t it? While Nintendo Wire typically doesn’t cover PlayStation news, this morning’s announcement was filled with so much nostalgia that we just had to talk about it.

While we’re all still reeling from the $700 sticker price for the PS5 Pro, Sony has gone and announced a brand new “30th Anniversary Collection” for various PlayStation products which includes an old-school fashioned PS5 Pro. Likely going for more than the MSRP of the device, this incredibly limited edition (only 12,300 bundles will be made) is stylized after the color scheme of the original PlayStation console. It still doesn’t include a disc drive, but it has a properly colored disc drive cover for if you decide to grab one down the line.

Alongside the console comes a similar colored Dualsense controller, a Dualsense Edge controller (the fancier, $200 one), a charging station, and a vertical stand. You’ll also find cable ties, a paperclip, a sticker, a limited edition poster, and a rather cute-looking USB cable that is fashioned like the old-school PS1 controller cable. I guess if we have to spend $700 for a mid-generation refresh, we might as well up the price a bit and go full nostalgia with it.

If you’re not sold on the PS5 Pro and would rather just stick with the original model, there is a limited-edition variant of the PS5 Pro Slim Digital. It, too, looks like the PS1 and comes with the console, a Dualsense controller, and disc drive cover. It has all of the other stuff, too, including the poster, pin, paperclip, and PS1 USB cable.

Rounding out this collection is a limited edition version of the PS Portal Remote player. I guess if you want to play your PS5 Pro games in less fidelity on a device that has no functionality beyond being a remote player, this version is for you. I don’t see much value in the PS Portal, but some people do and this PS1 colored variant is nice looking. Same with the Dualsense and Dualsense Edge controllers, which likely won’t be super limited.

Everything from the 30th Anniversary Collection will be available for pre-order from PlayStation Direct starting on September 26, 2024. You’ll need to sign into your PlayStation network account to pre-order one and with prices not listed just yet, who knows how much everything will run you. I would suspect the PS5 Pro bundle is around $1,000, so you might want to call your bank ahead of time.
