The rumors keep coming and coming from industry pundits regarding the Switch 2. In lieu of any actual news from Nintendo, it’s been down to YouTube personalities and industry insiders to leak out information about what they believe the Switch successor will contain. The latest rumor, which comes from noted pundit NateTheHate, claims that the Switch 2 is 100% going to have backward compatibility with the first console.

We’ve heard this multiple times now and it is something everyone was expecting. While it makes sense why the Switch couldn’t support previous Nintendo platforms (outside of the Switch online apps providing emulation), completely dropping the library from the first Switch would be a disastrous move for a follow-up console. With the Switch on track to become the best-selling console of all time, Nintendo would lose possibly the largest audience it has ever made if the new device didn’t play older games.

Nintendo Switch 2 will have an 8-inch LCD screen according to new report

Even so, it’s nice to hear this every so often as it is reassuring. Nintendo has a lot of quality games planned for the remainder of 2024 and there are even some heavy hitters coming in 2025. Not having to worry about whether or not those games will work on Switch 2 is a relief.
