Just outside of Nintendo’s Direct this morning, Digital Eclipse revealed that it has more in the pipeline than just a Tetris museum. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of its original release, DC will be bringing Worms Armageddon to all current (and last-gen) platforms in the form of “Worms Armageddon – Anniversary Edition.”

Often cited as the definitive Worms game, this latest port won’t be some massive overhaul or touched-up remake. Instead, it will be the original game on modern consoles with different display options, a new save system, an interactive museum with brand-new interviews, and will even have online multiplayer support. While cross-play is not enabled for every console, players on PS4 and PS5 will be able to battle one another as well as those on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

The cherry on top has to be the inclusion of the Game Boy Color version of Worms Armageddon that rounds out the package. While mostly a novelty in 2024, that portable port was an incredibly solid conversion for Nintendo’s handheld at the time. It is likely the way most people first experienced multiplayer Worms as it was incredibly difficult to get online games going back in the day.

Worms Armageddon – Anniversary Edition will be heading to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch on September 26, 2024.
