If an errant listing on the Nintendo of Japan website is to be believed, the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will reportedly have amiibo support when it launches on September 26, 2024. Noted by many websites after the game’s official reveal last week, it looks as if our long-awaited top-down return to Hyrule will come packed with some amiibo support. That’s a great excuse to start buying more Legend of Zelda figures.

What this support will entail is anyone’s guess. In the 2019 Link’s Awakening remake, amiibo support was fairly limited. While a special Link amiibo gave you “Plus Effects” for created dungeons in the Dungeon Creator mode, every other Zelda amiibo provided the same generic effect. You would unlock a random room and be able to store friend’s dungeons on them to take home. Fun, but not really essential.

If I had to guess, Echoes of Wisdom will probably let you scan amiibo and potentially make clones of said character. Since Zelda’s new wand, dubbed the Tri Rod, can manifest echoes of objects and enemies she has encountered, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that you could potentially summon a clone of Shiek or even Link to do battle with you. That might be a bit too overpowered, however.

We’ll find out the answer when The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom releases this September for Switch.
