While SNK has remained consistent with The King of Fighters and even recently revived Samurai Shodown, one of its most beloved fighting franchises has remained dormant since 1999. All of that despite its face being one of their most recurring characters, up to and including a recent appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Thankfully, that’s due to change next year.

Last seen at Evo 2023, the game now known as Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves has just gotten its first real showcase. While there’s no indication of platform at this time, and time has shown fighting games are inclined to pass on the Nintendo Switch as a platform, we’re more than happy to prop up the proper (with all due respect to the recently restocked amiibo) return of Terry Bogard.

What do we know about City of the Wolves?

Some things to note based on the footage and details we have are that this is very much a sequel and continuation of Garou: Mark of the Wolves — evident by Terry’s design and the presence of familiar characters seldom seen since that entry, such as co-headliner Rock Howard. They and the rest of the cast will also be receiving English voice actors.

A core element of the game will be the REV System. While not detailed extensively, it appears to have multiple functions designed to “supercharge[s] the excitement.” Players will learn more when the streets of South Town get a public hands on at Evo Japan 2024 starting April 27th.

Again, it’s important to note that no platforms have been revealed for the game and it’s up in the air if Switch (or possibly its successor) could be a part of this overdue return of Fatal Fury. Whatever the case, we’re excited to see this series return and can’t wait to see more.

When he isn’t writing for Nintendo Wire, Ricky’s anticipating the next Kirby, Fire Emblem, or if the stars ever align, Mother 3 to be released. Till then he’ll have the warm comfort of Super Smash Bros. to keep him going.
