During today’s Nintendo Direct, a brand-new entry in Sega’s long-running puzzle/arcade series Super Monkey Ball was revealed! Releasing exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on June 25th, 2024, Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble’s primary gimmick is multiplayer on a scale the series has yet to see.

What’s included in Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble

Like other games in the series, Banana Rumble has a story campaign, this one supporting up to four players in split-screen (or online) multiplayer. The campaign sports a whopping 200 new stages to beat your forehead against in the pursuit of fast times and high scores. There’s also an array of multiplayer game modes, such as Race, Banana Hunt, and Robot Smash among others. These modes support up to 16 players for some competitive chaos.

A new gameplay element, the familiar-sounding Spin Dash is also introduced in the announcement, giving a new angle for trick shots and speed-running for seasoned Monkey Ballers. Is that a thing? Monkey Ballers?

A variety of Banana Rumble editions

Multiple versions of the game will be available, with a standard edition, a digital deluxe edition, and a Legendary Banana Edition for the physical collectors. The Banana Edition will be at retail for $50 and comes with a slipcover, 40-page art book, reversible cover, and an, uh, exclusive banana suit?

The digital deluxe edition comes with the Sega Pass DLC Pack, which adds a group of six Sega characters to the list of playable characters alongside additional Sega-themed cosmetic items. Monkey Ball is no stranger to crossovers, with the previous release including cameos from the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog, Yakuza, and even Monster Rancher.

More details on Banana Rumble and the different ways you can give Sega money for it are available on the official Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble site.
