As soon as gameplay from Unicorn Overlord showed up on screen during today’s Nintendo Direct a certain subset of players will have immediately pegged it as a Vanillaware game, with its gorgeous animation and environments repping their signature style.

The studio, previously known for Odin Sphere, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, and more, is challenging the strategy RPG genre this time around. Fire Emblem is a clear inspiration here, but they appear to be bringing their own flair in ways beyond the art style, too.

As for the title, well, surely it’ll have significance somewhere down the line…
