The latest whisper in the “Switch 2” rumor mill has come through – this one being that Nintendo demonstrated the power of their followup console at Gamescom with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild running on it at 4k 60fps. While we have a more substantial Eurogamer report that the console was at Gamescom in the first place, this extended rumor comes from the Nate the Hate podcast, and is even more based on hearsay:

The emphasis of the demo was apparently that load times had been erased, with additional murmurs of Nvidia’s upscaling AI DLSS 3.5 tech. This isn’t necessarily indicative of Breath of the Wild being rereleased with the platform, so much as a demonstration of its potential.

It would be kind of a funny choice if so, though – Zelda games have basically never run at 60fps since jumping to 3D. In fact, the technological leap is so stark as to be at least a little dubious. But as always, these things are purely rumors. We’ll have to wait and see how real they are.
