The recent whispers that there would be a Nintendo Direct next week now have some significant corroboration to them: Pyoro, who accurately teased Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Super Mario RPG for June’s Nintendo Direct, is back with some new hints.

First is a cheeky reference to “fans of a certain MATLAB function” being happy with news. The common speculation here is this being a reference to F-Zero (as in fzero(x,y) – geddit), though other math-adjacent names like Metroid Prime could also be the answer. If it truly is new F-Zero news, it will be the first new game announcement for the franchise in roughly 20 years (assuming it’s not some sort of remaster or rerelease).

A while later, Pyoro also posted a gif of Donkey Kong from the Super Mario Bros. movie rolling across the ground. This could suggest either a new game for the big fella, or possibly some news on that DK movie spinoff we heard about a long time ago. Exciting either way!

We’ll have to wait and see if Pyoro’s hints are indicative of anything, and if this pre-TGS Direct even happens in the first place. Stay tuned for updates.
