Brew up a fresh pot of coffee and get your detective hat on, as Detective Pikachu’s sequel has a release date and a new title. Initially announced during May 2019’s Pokémon Press Conference and referred to as Detective Pikachu 2 in a LinkedIn posting last year, Tim Goodman and Pikachu’s mystery-solving adventure in Ryme City continues in Detective Pikachu Returns.
Unravel a series of mysteries across Ryme City with a tough-talking, coffee-loving Pikachu who calls himself a great detective. This Pikachu may have a self-assured attitude and talk like a middle-aged man, but he somehow manages to keep his lovable charm. Together with his partner Tim Goodman, this great detective duo cracks several cases with the help of the many Pokémon and people who live in Ryme City.
Investigate Ryme City, where Pokémon and people live side by side
Search for clues in Ryme City, where Pokémon and humans coexist in harmony. With the help of many other Pokémon, Tim and his talkative Pikachu partner work together to solve a series of mysterious incidents in this cinematic adventure game.
The trailer shows off a brief look at Ryme City – including some Pokémon from Pokémon Sword and Shield (which wasn’t released when Detective Pikachu debuted on the Nintendo 3DS in 2016). As for possible story details, the information is rather light. After all, we’ll be tasked with unraveling mysteries (and making sure our caffeine-addicted pal has a fresh cup of coffee), so it seems those details will be sparse leading up to the game’s release. Luckily, we don’t have to wait too long as Detective Pikachu Returns launches on Nintendo Switch on Friday, October 6th, 2023.
There’s no word yet if Detective Pikachu Returns will support the absolute unit Detective Pikachu amiibo that was initially released for the first game (or if we’ll be lucky enough to see a restock).
In the meantime, you can check out the official Detective Pikachu Returns website (which will probably be updated closer to the game’s release) as well as wishlist it or pre-order it on the Nintendo eShop.
