On June 11th, 1983, Capcom Co., Ltd was official formed in Japan as a merger between I.R.M. and its subsidiary Japan Capsule Computers Co., Ltd. That means yesterday was the legendary developer’s 40th anniversary, and to mark the occasion its opened the doors on the Capcom Town website.

It’s no basic website, either. Once you click through you can listen to some iconic tunes from various games, click away at the cute little easter eggs scattered throughout the town streets, and enter a few locations.

One of the biggest is the museum, featuring artwork, music, commercials, and even behind-the-scenes design documents. Some of these are even being shown for the first time, like the Mega Man design document cover below!

Of course it’s one thing to read up about games but what about playing them? Well head over to the Retro Games page and you can just play a bunch of classic games in your browser. This includes Mega Man 1, Mega Man X, Street Fighter 2, and Final Fight.

If you’re a fan of Capcom, or just video game history in general, be sure to swing on over to Capcom Town yourself!

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
