Cassette Beasts, one of the more intriguing monster taming games (AKA Pokémon-likes), has just hit PC, but there won’t be long to wait for Nintendo Switch owners to embark on a delightfully retro adventure.

The game has a unique hook in that you don’t capture the monsters you battle, instead you “record” them to tape and once played back you can assume their form. It also incorporates an open world design and local co-op play. Of course the typical elemental weaknesses and strengths come into play, too, and the artstyle is undeniably reminiscent of a certain franchise’s DS entries.

Cassette Beasts launches for Switch in just under a month on May 25th, 2023.
