When you walk away, you don’t hear me say “it’s Kingdom Hearts 21st anniversary.” Actually, you do, because it is! The first Kingdom Hearts game debuted on the PlayStation 2 in Japan 21 years ago, on March 28th, 2002.

The series from the beginning had its formula down – expansive Disney worlds, fluid and fun action RPG gameplay, and incredible music… though the plot of the first game seems almost quaint compared to what would come afterwards. While the series has become notorious for its tangled lore, it’s never lost the heart, humor, and hope that makes it shine.

Amusingly, the series still seems in the midst of celebrating its 20th anniversary, with special merch, announcements, and more still ongoing. As we wait for Kingdom Hearts IV, make sure to leave your own KH memories you treasure on Twitter
