This morning SEGA announced an upgrade to last year’s remastered collection of classic Sonic the Hedgehog games, Sonic Origins. This upgraded version, titled Sonic Origins Plus, was rated in South Korea last month, though no details were known outside of the name at the time. The wraps are fully off now, however, as the announcement this morning brought plenty of details to light that are sure to delight Sonic fans around the globe.

Sonic Origins Plus will add Classic Amy as a playable character to all four games in the original collection: Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, 3 and Sonic CD. The Plus upgrade is also adding Knuckles as a playable character in Sonic CD, meaning our entire cast of heroes will be playable across each of the original games available in Sonic Origins. That’s not all though, as Sonic Origins Plus is bringing along 12 emulated Sonic titles from the Sega Game Gear that will be playable in the in-game museum. You can catch all of these upgrades in action in the announcement video below:

Sonic Origins Plus will be available in three different ways: a standalone physical release, a standalone digital release, and as a downloadable upgrade to the original Sonic Origins. The physical release of Sonic Origins Plus, available for $39.99, will have all the upgrades mentioned above, plus all previously released DLC for Sonic Origins, a 20-page artbook, and a reversible coversheet with never-before-seen art. The digital version, also available for $39.99, will feature all of the upgrades mentioned above, alongside all previously released DLC for Sonic Origins. Current owners of Sonic Origins can get their hands on all of the same content the digital version has to offer, including previously released DLC, by purchasing the Plus Expansion Pack for $9.99.

Sonic Origins Plus is speeding onto Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and S exactly one year after the original release of Sonic Origins, June 23rd, 2023.
