The Nintendo Switch’s newest firmware update has just gone live, and it’s bumping the version number from 15 to 16, despite some scarce patch notes, which you can see below:

  • User nicknames that cannot be used will be replaced with “???” which can be updated from the profile settings.
  • General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.

That first bullet is a sensible addition, if nothing else, and of course stability improvements are a given. Time (and people with more technical expertise than me) will tell if there’s more going on under the hood in 16.0.0, but for now the Switch will remain stable, if nothing else. Nintendo Switch system version 16.0.0 is available now for Switch owners, just head to the System menu in Settings and click on “System Update.”
