The NPD has arrived with more sales figures, this time for December and thus the entirety of 2022.

Let’s take a look at those December figures first, though. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is back in the top 10 at position no. 8, while newcomer Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion has descended at the number 10 spot. Of course Pokémon Scarlet & Violet are the true victors for Nintendo, being beat out only by the mainstay that is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Not bad for the holiday season!

Looking at the bigger picture, Pokémon is the only Nintendo franchise to broach the whole top 10 for 2022, with Scarlet & Violet at number 6 and Legends: Arceus at number 8. In terms of third parties available on Switch, LEGO Star Wars beat out both for the number 5 spot, while FIFA 23 is nestled between them at no. 7.

Check out the full list:

  1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022)
  2. Elden Ring
  3. Madden NFL 23
  4. God of War: Ragnarok
  5. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
  6. Pokémon Scarlet/Violet
  7. FIFA 23
  8. Pokémon Legends: Arceus
  9. Horizon II: Forbidden West
  10. MLB: The Show 22

Gamespot, meanwhile, has covered the hardware side of things and reports that the Nintendo Switch is the system to have shifted the most units in 2022. In terms of dollars earned, however, the honor goes to the PlayStation 5.

An unfortunate bit of news is that spending on gaming has declined year-on-year in all areas except for subscription services like Nintendo Switch Online and Xbox Game Pass.

We’ll just have to wait and see if 2023 fares better for sales and what the heavy-hitters will be.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
