Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a game that’s sold more than a few copies. Almost 50 million, to be exact. Most of those sales have come from the United States, but it would be mistaken to say it’s a low seller elsewhere. And in Japan, it’s just crossed a large milestone – weekly Famitsu sales reports state that the game has officially passed 5 million copies.

The title isn’t the best selling on the console by a longshot – Animal Crossing: New Horizons has millions more, Smash Ultimate also crossed the 5 mil mark recently, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are on the verge of catching up after only a month or so of release. While it doesn’t hold the crown in the region, the suits can take solace in the gianter piles of cash it’s made worldwide. One of the biggest piles of all-time, in fact.
