Any of you remember Pokémon Pinball? There were two whole little pinball spinoffs for the franchise, one for the original Game Boy and one for the Game Boy Advance, and they were pretty well regarded. It appeared that the series just quietly ended after those two entries, but as an exposé by Did You Know Gaming reveals, the actual story had more wrinkles.

There was a Pokémon Pinball game planned for DS, one that’d release right around the time of Diamond/Pearl. It would’ve been developed by Fuse Games, the folks who made Mario Pinball Land and Metroid Prime Pinball. Fuse would have infused (hehe) the Pokémon Pinball design with a game structure more similar to actual Pokémon games, with team building, progression, and even Gym battles on double-sided pinball boards. Fuse made a demo that appeared to impress the folks at The Pokémon Company and Nintendo, but ultimately the game wasn’t greenlit. Unfortunate, since the series never picked up again thereafter.
