Pre-orders aren’t a measure of a game’s quality so much as a measure of how much people liked the most immediately preceding games in a series and also how enticing the marketing has been. But either way, it’s looking good for The Pokémon Company’s bottom line, as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are the most pre-ordered games in series history.

TPC COO Takato Utsunomiya revealed the information in an interview with Oricon News. It’s unclear if he was referring to worldwide or Japanese pre-orders, and he doesn’t clarify at all. The previous series record holder for Japanese pre-orders was Black and White, with 1.882 million pre-orders. Of course, we’ll have to see how well the game actually sells when it releases, but it’s hard to imagine the game tanking with this kind of announcement.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet release tomorrow, November 18th. Looking to pick up a copy for yourself? Make sure to check out our pre-order guide!
