We’ve seen Pokémon with Tera Types activated in battles and in Tera Raids, but not in wild encounters. Today, that changes thanks to the latest Pokémon Scarlet and Violet trailer.

During the 14-minute-long trailer, a glowing wild Jigglypuff was shown (complete with sparkling particles and rainbow lights). This Jigglypuff wasn’t Shiny! That glowing signified that it has a Tera Type and when you start a battle against it, its Tera Type will activate.

As for how long it’ll be Terastallized, that’s up to you. If you deplete enough of the Pokémon’s health, it will revert to its non-Tera Type form and type. For this showcase, the Jigglypuff reverted from its Water Tera Type once its health was in the red/danger zone.

While this is a helpful way to identify Pokémon with a Tera Type, it doesn’t identify which one of the 18 Tera Types a Pokémon will have. Between that and the wording in various Pokémon Scarlet and Violet announcements that certain Tera Types will be rare for specific Pokémon, it looks like Trainers will be grinding for wild Tera Pokémon encounters and Tera Raid Battles in building the perfect team.

We’ll know more once Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are released on November 18th.
