Splatoon 3 is finally here! Now that Inklings and Octolings can make the trek to The Splatlands, grab a catalog from Hotlantis, and jump into online matches and/or Salmon Run shifts, it’s gonna be quite busy in Splatsville.

Of course, we can’t forget about the game’s companion app via the Nintendo Switch Online app. SplatNet 3 includes a QR Code scanner and that’s because it seems that Nintendo will release special promotional in-game items this way. And, even better, to celebrate the release of Splatoon 3, they just released the first one!

Scanning this QR Code within the SplatNet 3 app will gift you a Splashtag (to the Nintendo Account that you’ve logged into with the app). If you do it with a different QR Code reader (or just your mobile device’s camera), you’ll get a lovely string of text that won’t do anything.

After you successfully acquire in SplatNet 3, you’ll be directed to pick up your shiny new Splashtag via Splatoon 3’s lobby terminal. Pick it up there and then you can set this as your Splashtag design.

Look forward to more special in-game items being released this way over the next few years, given that Nintendo has promised Splatoon 3 will have two years of free updates.

Splatoon 3 is now available on Nintendo Switch. Booyah!
