The Pokémon World Championships 2022 have come to a close! During today’s closing ceremonies and trophy distribution, we got a brand new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet announcement.

The trailer, while short, introduced a brand new Pokémon (Cyclizar), as well as new items and moves.

Cyclizar is part lizard, part bike or motorcycle (that’s the third one for Scarlet and Violet). Classified as a Mount Pokémon that is Dragon- and Normal-type, it stands 5′ 3″ tall and weighs 138.9 lbs. It also has the ability Shed Skin.

According to its page on the official Pokémon Scarlet and Violet site, “[t]his Pokémon has lived in many households in the Paldea region since ancient times. It has a mild disposition, and people riding Cyclizar are a very common sight. It appears Cyclizar don’t mind being ridden because the warmth of a rider helps stave off the cold. Cyclizar can sprint at over 70 mph while carrying a human. Its extremely hard head and thick, lithe tail are not only useful for maintaining balance and absorbing shocks while sprinting—they also provide effective ways to attack during battles.”

Cyclizar also has one of the new moves coming to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. With Shed Tail, “[t]he user creates a substitute for itself using its own HP before switching places with a party Pokémon in waiting.”

As for new held items, three were shown off in battles. They are:

  • Mirror Herb: This herb will allow the holder to mirror an opponent’s stat increases and boost its own stats–but only once.
  • Covert Cloak: This hooded cloak conceals the holder, protecting it from the additional effects of moves.
  • Loaded Dice: If a Pokémon holding this item uses a multistrike move, that move will be more likely to hit more times.

Lastly, we got a few more teases of Pokémon Terastallizing. In the trailer, we saw Coalossal transforming into a Water Tera Type (thus making Water-type moves against it not super effective) and Tyranitar having a Ghost Tera Type. This is also the first time we’ve seen the Ghost Tera Type “crown”.

Closing out the trailer, we saw a new move from Ghost Tera Type Tyranitar – Tera Blast. According to the official Pokémon Scarlet and Violet site, “Tera Blast is a Normal-type move that can be learned with a TM. When used by a Terastallized Pokémon, it becomes a move of the same type as the Pokémon’s Tera Type and displays its immense might. Use it at the right moment to change the flow of the battle. Tera Blast inflicts damage using the Attack or Sp. Atk stat—whichever is higher for the user.”

Expect more news as we closer to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s release date on Friday, November 18th.
