Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is shaping up to be a much grander experience than its older spinoff sibling. The first FEW wasn’t bad, and some of the ideas it had that came from Fire Emblem itself were implemented well, but it’s looking like Three Hopes is out to narrow the focus and nail the inspiration.
By being a new take on the conflicts of Fódlan, it has a chance to capture the multi-path narrative and sense of conflict that Three Houses carried. That doesn’t mean it’s a straight retelling, though. Per this latest trailer, one of the key differences is that Byleth is established as an enemy.
For a lead, it appears we’ll be in the shoes of Shez. Like Byleth they’re a mercenary, and players can freely name and choose between a male and female presenting version of the character. You’ll then join one of three factions: Edelgard’s Scarlet Blaze, Dimitri’s Azure Gleam, and Claude’s Golden Wildfire. We also get a first look at gameplay from their retainers Hubert, Dedue, and Hilda; as well as appearances from other familiar faces.
Other returning ideas include being able to reclass characters (though that may be limited to Shez), each route having its own storyline, and having separate activities that are accessible at Garreg Mach between battles. In honing in on the Three Houses experience, Three Hopes may lose some of the crossover aspect of the first Warriors but it’s shaping up to be a more complete experience because of it. And just who is that stark-white individual with red eyes at the end…?
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes will arrive on Switch June 24th.
