The amount of fan art of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s starters is staggering. Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly have all taken the internet by storm within their first few days. Among those is a piece from Pokémon Sword and Shield’s art director and recurring designer James Turner.

No stranger to sharing cute portrayals of Nintendo characters on his Twitter — Kirby and Ness popped up just last week — Turner had the Scarlet and Violet trio of starters up a day after their debut.

Currently there’s no word on if he’s filling the same role for these latest games as he did for Sword and Shield, or if he personally designed any of the starters, but at the least he’s produced something adorable here.

Look forward to plenty more fan art and Pokémon designs as we head towards Scarlet and Violet’s release window of late 2022.

When he isn’t writing for Nintendo Wire, Ricky’s anticipating the next Kirby, Fire Emblem, or if the stars ever align, Mother 3 to be released. Till then he’ll have the warm comfort of Super Smash Bros. to keep him going.
