Sometimes in life you have to drop a quarter-grand on a figure of an anime catgirl. Some may scratch their heads at such a statement or respond “that’s not true,” but they just don’t get it. They don’t understand the inner human drive for beauty, for artistry, for perfection. Do you find such things on a sunny walk through a forest? In the misty haze over a bay on a cold autumn morning? Or in the finely sculpted form of an anime catgirl? The answer is ‘yes’ to all of these — even if the last one is a little cringe. Wait, what were we talking about?

Oh right, not just any anime catgirl, but Nia, secondary protag of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (and future villain of Xenoblade Chronicles 3?). A loser in love and also cannibalism (this series goes places) whom many would give their life for, myself included. She’s the fourth figure released for the game, after heroines Pyra and Mythra and Xenosaga protag-turned-gacha reward KOS-MOS. Previous figures clocked in close to $200 even; Nia, however, is going for $260. While this is presumably because the figure is nicer and thus more expensive to produce, I choose to believe it’s because they knew we’d pay more for her. And Architect be damned, they were right. Don’t ask me how my bank account is doing right now. I may be cringe, but I am free.

Uh, anyway. You can pre-order your own Nia figure from Good Smile or AmiAmi right now. It’s expected to release in August 2023, nearly a full year after the projected release of Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
