Roughly half a year off from the release of the much-awaited (by me) sequel to AI: The Somnium Files, Spike Chunsoft has released a story trailer for the game, giving us all a glimpse into whatever the heck Director Kotaro Uchikoshi has imagined up for this mind-bending ride into psyches and somniums. The game follows Special Agent Mizuki Okiura, now grown up after the events of the first game, and her eyeball robot buddy Aiba (who used to belong to her surrogate father) as they team up with new ABIS investigators Ryuki and Tama to solve a strange series of Half Body serial murders while unraveling the truth of the organization of the Nirvana Initiative.

Now that I have successfully put up a front of being a calm and composed reporter on the subject, let me shatter that illusion: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. WHAT THE HELL UCHIKOSHI I THOUGHT I WAS EXCITED FOR THIS GAME BEFORE BUT NOW I’M LEFT WITH QUESTIONS BURNING SUNSPOTS IN MY MIND. DOES THIS GAME TAKE PLACE AFTER THE MIZUKI ENDING OF THE ORIGINAL? HOW MANY PREVIOUS CHARACTERS ARE RETURNING? (DO NOT SAY OTA.) AND WHAT IN GOD’S NAME IS DATE UP TO???

Ahem.

AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative releases on Nintendo Switch and other platforms June 24th. You can pre-order the standard ($59.99) or special edition ($119.99) now.
