Chocobo GP is a cutesy, cartoonish-styled kart racer, so it only makes sense that they would pull characters from the most cartoonishly styled Final Fantasy game, as Black Mage Vivi and Knight Steiner (already confirmed to be in the game) have gotten a character trailer — and voices!

Vivi’s voice very recognizably belongs to the iconic Ikue Ohtani (Pikachu, One Piece’s Tony Tony Chopper, and Persona 5’s Morgana), who did in fact voice Vivi in Kingdom Hearts II all the way back in 2005, so it’s nothing if not consistent (besides, Ikue Ohtani voicing a mascot is like sticking a hand in a glove). Steiner’s voice is less immediately recognizable, but its gruff exaggeration and goofy yells fit him to a T.

No word on if any other characters from IX will be in CGP — Eiko or Quina seem like picks that would also fit the game’s vibe, though my heart can’t help but want for Zidane or Dagger as well. Either way, this game already has some of the greatest Final Fantasy characters ever (Terra, Gilgamesh, and Vivi himself) so we can’t complain. Chocobo GP releases on March 10th, 2022.
