Super Smash Bros. Ultimate could be a once in a lifetime kind of game. There’s a chance that all these figures may not commingle again on the character select screen, making this Switch title all the more special. It may not be getting updates or weekly events these days, but on the game’s third anniversary a series of screenshots have been shared to celebrate every stepping stone to this point.

The above shots both pay tribute to the first Super Smash Bros., featuring the base roster and the first four secret fighters. They’re both simple but evocative, taking longtime fans all the way back to the N64. Of course, these days they have a lot more company.

Across each of these themed batches we get the entire roster, organized by game and fighter number. It’s not completely perfect, as the Pokémon Trainer is only sporting Squirtle and we don’t have alternate characters like the Koopalings or Alph, but it’s still a humbling and impressive display that took two decades to reach.

Whatever the future holds, it’s bound to be Smashing.
