It’s really not hard to get your Metroidvania fix on Switch lately – the two namesakes of the genre even got recent attention with Metroid Dread and Castlevania Advance Collection. This latest announcement from Playism might just get you to explore one more 2D world, though.

Released earlier this year on Steam, Record of Lodoss War ~Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth~ is based on the Japanese novel-turned-manga series and was even overseen by the original creator, Ryo Mizuno. The game itself has you explore a gorgeously animated environment using a variety of weapons and elemental spirits to overcome obstacles.

If it looks familiar, that’s because development is being handled by Team Ladybug who previously worked on Touhou Luna Nights and the free promo game Shin Megami Tensei Synchronicity Prologue.

Record of Lodoss War ~Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth~ launches for Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series in Japan on December 16th, 2021. The game will reportedly support English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazillian Portugese, Russian, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), and Korean language options, so it’s likely to see a worldwide release around the same time.
