For years I’ve been clamoring for a new Chocobo Racing game, but it has been well over 2 decades since the first and only entry hit the PlayStation… Yet here we are, with today’s Nintendo Direct granting my wish and then some.

Chocobo GP will once again throw a bunch of familiar Final Fantasy faces onto the race track but this time around it seems to be going even further. There’s kart customization, for starters, not to mention a bunch of courses like Final Fantasy VI’s Zozo, VII’s Gold Saucer, and IX’s Alexandria.

Speaking of IX, that game appears to be getting a lot of love, with both Vivi and Steiner being confirmed as racers, alongside the returning Chocobo, Mog, Behemoth, and White Mage!

Chocobo GP will speed onto the scene exclusively for Switch in 2022. More news is expected via a TGS 2021 broadcast on October 3rd at 13:00 JST.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
