Taking their love of retro gaming consoles and handhelds, and mixing in some 21st-century upgrades, the modding community is always ready to make something better. … Or weird for the sake of weird and “Why not?” in the case of certain projects, like the WideBoy Advance. Today though, a new mod for the Game Boy Pocket is all about practicality, increasing the handheld’s battery life, and making it easier to charge.

Shown off step-by-step from Macho Nacho Productions, Tito shows off how easy is it to install this mod for the Game Boy Pocket. All it requires are RetroSix’s Game Boy Pocket Shell and CleanJuice Air Wireless Battery Pack. With that and the proper screwdriver, you’ll have an AA battery-less Game Boy Pocket ready for the road.

Tito even compared the battery times of the finished mod to a Game Boy Pocket using the standard AA batteries. For modders who have already installed an IPS kit (backlit screen) and wonder how long the CleanJuice Air battery would last, don’t worry – Tito ran tests on a modified Game Boy Pocket sporting an IPS too.

For those who want to give this mod a try, you can order the CleanJuice Air battery and the modified Game Boy Pocket shell from RetroSix.
