Way back in 2019, Koei Tecmo brought back its Monster Farm series in Japan with a port of the original PlayStation game to the Nintendo Switch eShop. With such a long wait since release, it was easy to discount the possibility of a localization, yet here we are.

Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX will include ports of the first two games in one package, complete with new features like a speed boost option, a training memo, and more besides.

If you’re unfamiliar, Monster Rancher was a series in which you converted physical CDs into monster data, which you then trained and battled. While the CD feature is naturally no longer available, you can search a database of songs to try and find your favorites.

Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX will hit the Nintendo Switch, Steam, and iOS on December 8th, 2021.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
