Today is Sonic the Hedgehog’s 30th birthday! I mean, the character himself has been 15 for decades now, even if he canonically celebrated his birthday that one time. I’m talking about the series as a whole and the original game. Who knew that when Sonic sped onto the Genesis that he’d make such a mark on games and entertainment as a whole, but here we are.

Speaking personally, Sonic 2 was one of the earliest games I remember playing on any system thanks to the Sega Channel. Through ups, downs, and all-arounds we’ve been playing Sonic games and it’s pretty clear he’s not about to start stopping any time soon. There’s a new game on the horizon, not to mention a sequel to his Hollywood debut. With all that going on, it’s nice to see he still took some time to grab a little cake.

Served by Wisps along with flowers, a cape, and a crown; it’s a full happy birthday treatment for the blue blur. And remember, you can celebrate the Sonic the Hedgehog 30th Anniversary yourself by tuning in to the special Sonic Symphony that’ll be airing tonight completely free on both YouTube and Twitch.

It will premiere at 12 p.m. PT, and be uploaded and available for repeat watches and listens shortly after.
