After years of waiting, a new Sonic the Hedgehog title is finally on the way. Teased at the very end of today’s Sonic Central broadcast by Takashi Iizuka himself, the untitled Sonic Team project is due in 2022.

What’s shown looks very good, and Sonic himself appears to have a new (or at least updated) design. Note the proportions on his limbs, and the deliberate omission of his spiky head. It appears boosting will be back, but then this is just an early tease with no gameplay. What we do get, is a mysterious symbol and a lush forest environment.

Keep your Sonic Adventure 3 hopes in check and be on the lookout for more information as Sonic’s 30th anniversary year continues. This new Sonic Team title will come to Switch and more sometime next year.
