We’re just a day away from finding out about Sega’s plans for Sonic the Hedgehog’s 30th Anniversary, but that’s not to say we don’t already know of a few things that are on the way.

Perhaps the biggest deal of the bunch is IDW’s 30th Anniversary Special, which is finally bringing back Classic Sonic to the realm of comics. The pudgier hero did have a few books under Archie, but this is his debut with IDW.

We’ve already shared the Free Comic Book Day edition cover from the book’s announcement, but now we have two more. The first is courtesy of Patrick Spaziante, a veteran of the Sonic comic scene. His artwork takes Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Eggman, Metal Sonic, and Nack the Weasel to a casino zone. That’s the same cast of characters as Sonic Drift 2, which is also referenced with Amy’s little car. Cute!

The second cover comes from Tyson Hesse. If you’re a fan of Sonic, you’re almost certainly know him as the artist who helped animate the Sonic Mania opening and salvage the movie design, among many other feats. This cover takes a stylized graffiti approach, referencing various key years of Sonic releases (yes, even 2006.)

Finally, we have a look inside the book itself, which reveals Amy Rose as an avid journaler.

We’re sure to learn more about Sonic tomorrow at 12 p.m. ET as part of Sonic Central, and we’ll be sure to bring you all the biggest pieces of news as they come in.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
