If Super Mario taught us anything it’s that Nintendo likes 35th anniversary years. That extends to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, though rather than take turns with their own events, five series are about to get together for one big Smash bash.

2021 is the 35th anniversary year for The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Castlevania, and Dragon Quest; as such the latest tournament event will be limited to just those long runners. It’s not just fighters either, as that exclusivity extends to stages and items as well. It’ll be an impressive chunk of Ultimate’s roster, and only four of them are swordsmen!

Fans of these five thirty-fiver franchises can look forward to their weekend long online tourney celebration, beginning May 28th.

When he isn’t writing for Nintendo Wire, Ricky’s anticipating the next Kirby, Fire Emblem, or if the stars ever align, Mother 3 to be released. Till then he’ll have the warm comfort of Super Smash Bros. to keep him going.
