TimeSplitters, the much loved first person shooter series from Free Radical Design, has lain dormant since 2005. The odds of it having any sort of future seemed non-existent, with Free Radical effectively defunct around 2014. Still, if I’ve learned anything from various media it’s that pretty much anything is possible with time travel.

Announced today by Deep Silver, whose parent company Koch Media has owned the TimeSplitters IP since 2018, a new entry will be in development soon. Not only that, but “key staff” from Free Radical will be returning to head the project and mark the recreation of the studio. This will include founders Steve Ellis and David Doak, who previously worked with Rare to develop Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark before their creation of TimeSplitters.

Per a provided press release, “The Free Radical Design team will commence development on the next TimeSplitters game in the coming months.” No platforms were announced at this time, however TimeSplitters 2 and TimeSplitters: Future Perfect both released on the GameCube alongside other platforms of the time. Whether or not this new TimeSplitters will be on Switch will hopefully be announced once development is underway.
