The official Pokémon GO blog has announced that an all-new event for the game, Friendship Day, is coming later this month.

The event will run on Saturday, April 24th, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time. It will celebrate Grass-type Pokémon with green confetti appearing on the map and Grass-types appearing more often in the wild.

Players will have new opportunities to gain more experience points, with the Friendship Day Collection Challenge offering 100,000 XP to those who can complete it before the event concludes. The Friendship Day Global Challenge also provides hourly challenges to complete for 20,000 XP a pop.

Until 5 p.m., participants will also have an increased chance of receiving Lucky Pokémon through trades, a rare variant of Pokémon that require less Stardust to power up.

Other bonuses during the event include the following:

  • Trade distance will be increased to 40 km.
  • A 3× Catch XP bonus will be active.
  • Incense activated during the event will last for three hours.
  • Lures activated during the event will last for three hours.

In the meantime, Pokémon GO players can busy themselves with Rival’s Week, a weeklong event starting on April 13th featuring new obtainable Pokémon, Field Research, bonuses, and more.
