The newest entry in the long-running Story of Seasons series has had a productive spring season! Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, which released on February 25th in Japan, had some growing pains at first. Players who purchased the game from Japan’s Nintendo eShop soon found themselves dealing with long loading times, game crashes, and balancing issues concerning the game’s maker machines. I even encountered these problems when I initially previewed the game ahead of its western releases (March 23rd and 26th). Due to fan feedback, the game’s producer published a statement addressing the issues and promising that the development team was hard at work on a series of patches.

Version 1.0.3 made it just in time for Pioneers of Olive Town’s western releases and now, about two weeks later, Version 1.0.4 has been released. Announced on the Bokujō Monogatari site, XSEED Games later posted the announcement in English along with the following patch notes:

  • Shortens loading times in general
  • Fixes an animation when making a “Special Prayer” at the shrine
  • Fixes an issue where save data could become corrupted after animals are born
  • Fixes an issue where the game could freeze after the child adoption event
  • Fixes an issue that created infinite items under certain conditions
  • Adds a language settings menu under “Options” in the game’s title screen
  • Other minor bug fixes

XSEED Games also partially translated a second post on the Bokujō Monogatari site, which focuses on the next update – Version 1.0.5. These planned changes are the following:

  • Adjusts some of the residents’ existing dialogue and adds new dialogue
    • “Our team is now working on writing new dialogue so that players can enjoy getting to know the residents of Olive Town even more than before.”
  • Changes the functionality of all makers
    • “In an effort to improve the functionality of makers, they will be changed so that each maker is able to create multiple items.”
  • Improves visuals during eating scenes
  • Adds the ability to lock movement in a straight line
  • Adjusts cooking times
  • Removes the need to press the A Button when moving from indoors to outdoors

The post on the Bokujō Monogatari site states that Version 1.0.5 will be released towards the end of May (XSEED Games didn’t specify a timeframe in their post).
