It’s a known fact that Masahiro Sakurai puts his all into the direction and development of Super Smash Bros., but it’s his recurring tributes to game anniversaries and releases that’s impressing me this year. This last week saw another handful of titles get that attention, ranging from one of his earliest games to one that just released.

Kirby’s Adventure –

Mega Man 7 –

Game & Wario –

Monster Hunter Rise –

Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade –

Tekken –

Solgaleo is making a pretty good stand in for Magnamalo alongside a Mii Swordfighter for the Monster Hunter Rise screenshot. Speaking of Miis, Tekken’s an interesting one to highlight, with the Heihachi costume being a little minimal for representation. At least that’s what I’d be saying if it weren’t for Mega Man 7, which eked out courtesy of Bass’ very brief appearance in Mega Man’s Final Smash. It just goes to show that major or minor, big or small; if it’s referenced in Smash there’s a chance we could see it recreated.

When he isn’t writing for Nintendo Wire, Ricky’s anticipating the next Kirby, Fire Emblem, or if the stars ever align, Mother 3 to be released. Till then he’ll have the warm comfort of Super Smash Bros. to keep him going.
