The NeoGeo Pocket Color Selection has been one of my favorite roll outs of retro titles on Switch. Something about the handheld’s aesthetic and its ability to capture SNK’s library of fighting game greats well enough despite hardware limitations (compared to the NeoGeo itself) is worth celebrating. That’s why I’m pleased to say that the NeoGeo Pocket Color Selection Vol. 1 collection is available today!

Previously mentioned on SNK’s Twitter, the compilation will bring together ten titles. Many of these have already been available as standalones, but some are making their Switch debut via this release. The ten titles are:

  • SNK Gal’s Fighters
  • Samurai Shodown! 2
  • The King of Fighters R-2
  • The Last Blade: Beyond the Destiny
  • Fatal Fury First Contact
  • SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium
  • Metal Slug 1st Mission
  • Metal Slug 2nd Mission
  • Dark Arms: Beast Buster
  • Big Tournament Golf

The Metal Slug titles are a great get, and it’s an all around fantastic set of games particularly if you enjoy fighters. Dark Arms and Big Tournament Golf (aka Neo Turf Masters) also bring some welcome variety. Perhaps the best part of this set, though, is that “Vol. 1” in the title.

The end of the trailer also reveals a physical release is “coming soon”, meaning you’ll be able to play all these classic games on a cart!

Here’s hoping we see even more NeoGeo Pocket Color titles on Switch. With Capcom characters already featured, perhaps the future will bring Sega on board to give Sonic Pocket Adventure another chance…
