One of the biggest surprises of the second Japan Fighting Game Publishers Roundtable came courtesy of Arika. Founded by the creators of Street Fighter II after they left Capcom, they would go on to develop the Street Fighter EX and eventually take those original characters and create their own game – Fighting EX Layer.

Out of nowhere, that game will be receiving an updated release called Fighting EX Layer: Another Dash, and it’s coming to Switch.

From a Nintendo perspective they’ve been heavily involved with Tetris 99 and Dr. Mario titles, and were behind the 3D Classics release on 3DS. No details beyond “2021” as a release target were shared, though Arika originally introduced EX Layer as an April Fool’s announcement. Perhaps we’ll hear more in about a month’s time? Either way, it means eventually playing as one of the greatest fighting game characters of all time, Skullomania, on Switch.
