There are few tidbits more interesting than discovering old game prototypes, some of which reveal radically different versions of the games in question. By those standards, a recently unearthed NES DuckTales prototype dated February 5th, 1989 is fairly humble: while the total number of changes are large, they’re mostly minute details… but there is one small overhaul, which is in the stage select music, which originally had a completely different track:

 

 

Considering the quality of DuckTales’ soundtrack, this is a nice find. This is the earliest known prototype of the game in existence, but there’s another one dated May 25, 1989 that’s closer to the final build of the game. We’ll be sure to let the readerbase know about any more prototypes discovered, whether for Ducktales or other titles.
