Puyo Puyo has grown steadily in the west, but in Japan all that progress happened a long time ago. Puyo is a lot more recognized in its home country, to the point Sega can host a live broadcast program for what it’s calling Puyo Day!

This ties in to the series’ 30th Anniversary celebrations, and will have three main games as its focus. Among these is Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, the latest release in the series and one of our favorite puzzle games around. News on the game’s second free post-launch update will be given as part of the presentation. This may just be when we can expect the update to arrive. If it’s anything like the previous, this could include new characters and modes, with Sonic the Hedgehog himself having been the big surprise last time.

The other two featured titles will be Puyo Puyo Quest, a mobile game that’s been going strong for quite some time overseas, and Puyo Puyo Champions. That said, there don’t seem to be any updates planned for Champions, as it will instead be a part of a special eSports presentation, with high level pro players taking on challengers online as they aim for 30 wins.

As said, this is primarily for Japanese audiences. Don’t expect any sort of English subtitles, and any Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 update news should be shared by Sega of America soon after. However, if you love Puyo so much you want to hear some of its voice actors live, this Puyo Day broadcast will be live on February 3rd, at 3 a.m. PT.
